45.5

astu tarhi sa pratipakṣahīno vitaṇḍā? yad vai khalu tat parapratiṣedhalakṣaṇaṃ vākyaṃ sa vaitaṇḍikasya pakṣaḥ, na tv asau sādhyaṃ kañcid arthaṃ pratijñāya sthāpayatīti/ tasmād yathānyāsam evāstv iti// 3 //

Then let it be: 'That [disputation], devoid of a counter-thesis, is cavil'? That statement whose characteristic is the refutation of the opponent is indeed the thesis of the caviller; he just does not, having propounded some object to be proved, prove it. Therefore, let it remain just as formulated [in the sūtra]. || 3
