antaḥkaraṇaṃ trividhaṃ daśadhā bāhyaṃ trayasya viṣayākhyam /
sāmpratakālaṃ bāhyaṃ trikālam ābhyantaraṃ karaṇam //
The internal instrument is threefold; the external is tenfold, designated as the object of the triad;
The external instrument belongs to the present time; the internal belongs to the three times.
