kativihā ṇaṃ bhaṃte! pajjavā pannattā?
goyamā! duvihā pajjavā pannattā, taṃ jahā–jīvapajjavā ya, ajīvapajjavā ya| pajjavapadaṃ niravasesaṃ bhāṇiyavvaṃ jahā pannavaṇāe|

"Of how many kinds, Venerable Sir, are modes taught?"
"Gautama, modes are taught to be of two kinds, namely: jīva-modes and non-jīva-modes. The section on modes is to be recited in full, just as in the Prajñāpanā."
