"Where, Venerable Sir, is the great celestial abode named Svayañjala of King Varuṇa, the Lokapāla of Śakra, king of the gods, lord of the gods, stated to be?"
"Gautama! To the west of that great celestial abode Saudharmāvataṃsaka, just as [described for] Soma, so the celestial abodes and capitals are to be recited up to the palace pinnacles, with the only difference being in the names.
Under the command, direction, word, and instruction of King Varuṇa, the Lokapāla of Śakra, king of the gods, lord of the gods, dwell these gods, namely: those belonging to the Varuṇakāyika body, or those belonging to the Varuṇadevakāyika body, Nāgakumāras, Nāgakumārīs, Uadhikumāras, Udadhikumārīs, Stanitakumāras, Stanitakumārīs—and whatever other ones of such nature, all of them devoted to him, belonging to his party, dependent on him, dwell under the command, direction, word, and instruction of King Varuṇa, the Lokapāla of Śakra, king of the gods, lord of the gods.
In Jambūdvīpa island, to the south of Mount Mandara, whatever these [occurrences] arise, namely: excessive rains, or deficient rains, or good rains, or bad rains, or spring-outbursts, or water overflows, or floods, or torrents, or village inundations, up to campsite inundations, destruction of life, destruction of people, destruction of wealth, destruction of families, calamitous afflictions, and whatever other ones of such nature, none of these are unknown, unseen, unheard, unthought, or unperceived by King Varuṇa, the Lokapāla of Śakra, king of the gods, lord of the gods, or by those Varuṇakāyika gods.
To King Varuṇa, the Lokapāla of Śakra, king of the gods, lord of the gods, these gods were recognized as dear as sons, namely: Karkoṭaka, Kardamaka, Añjana, Śaṅkhapālaka, Puṇḍra, Palāśa, Moda, Jaya, Dadhimukha, Ayampula, Kātarika.
For King Varuṇa, the Lokapāla of Śakra, king of the gods, lord of the gods, the lifespan duration is stated to be two palyopamas deficient by a fraction. For the gods recognized as dear as sons, the lifespan duration is stated to be one palyopama. Of such great psychic power, up to of such great majesty, is King Varuṇa."
