In Rājagṛha, down to, he spoke thus: "Where, Venerable Sir, is the island named Ekoruka Island of the southern Ekoruka humans declared to be?"
"Gautama! To the south of Mount Mandara in the continent of Jambūdvīpa, going into the Lavaṇa Ocean three hundred yojanas to the northeast from the eastern boundary of the Cullavimavanta boundary mountain, right there the island named Ekoruka Island of the southern Ekoruka humans is declared to be—three hundred yojanas in length and width, and slightly less than nine hundred and forty-nine yojanas in circumference.
It is surrounded on all sides completely by an excellent lotus-balustrade and by a woodland grove. The dimension and description of both [are to be given]. Thus, in this order, just as in the Jīvājīvābhigama down to Śuddhadanta Island, down to: 'Those humans are declared to attain the world of the gods, O long-lived śramaṇa!'
In this manner all twenty-eight intermediate islands should be spoken of, each with its own length and width, with this difference only: an uddeśaka for each island, so there are altogether twenty-eight uddeśakas."
"It is so, Venerable Sir; it is so, Venerable Sir!"
