“How many, Venerable Sir, are the samugghātas declared to be?”
“Gautama, seven samugghātas are declared, namely: 1. [vedanā-]samugghāta, 2. kaṣāya-samugghāta, 3. māraṇāntika-samugghāta, 4. vaikriya-samugghāta, 5. taijasa-samugghāta, 6. āhāraka-samugghāta, 7. kevali-samugghāta. The chapter on samugghāta [from the Prajñāpanā-sūtra] is to be understood here, excluding the samugghāta of the non-omniscient.”
