Then, when the eight-day great festival for the deity Prabhāsatīrthakumāra was concluded, that divine cakra-jewel departed from the armoury hall. Having departed, travelling through the atmosphere, surrounded by a thousand yakṣas, filling the vault of the sky with the resonance of divine musical instruments, it set forth along the southern bank of the great river Sindhū towards the eastern direction, facing the mansion of the goddess Sindhū.
Then King Bharata saw that divine cakra-jewel set forth along the southern bank of the great river Sindhū towards the eastern direction, facing the mansion of the goddess Sindhū. Having seen it, delighted and glad in mind, joyful, likewise up to: he approached the mansion of the goddess Sindhū. Having approached, not far from the mansion of the goddess Sindhū, he established a victorious royal camp twelve yojanas long and nine yojanas broad, resembling an excellent city. Having established it, he summoned the carpenter-jewel and spoke thus:
"Quickly, O beloved of the gods! Prepare my dwelling and the pauṣadha-hall, and having prepared them, report back this order to me."
Then that carpenter-jewel, having been spoken to thus by King Bharata, delighted, glad in mind, joyful, pleased, of supreme good spirits, his heart expanding with joy, folding his hands upon his head in a ten-fingered respectful salutation, obediently and humbly assented to the command, saying: "So be it, O Lord!" Having assented, he made the dwelling and the pauṣadha-hall for King Bharata, and having made them, reported back this order quickly.
Then King Bharata descended from the consecrated elephant-jewel. Having descended, he went to the pauṣadha-hall; having gone, he entered the pauṣadha-hall; having entered, he swept the pauṣadha-hall; having swept it, he spread out a bed of darbha grass; having spread it out, he mounted the bed of darbha grass; having mounted it, he undertook a three-day fast (aṣṭamabhakta) directed towards the goddess Sindhū. Having undertaken it, observing pauṣadha in the pauṣadha-hall, celibate, casting off jewels and gold, free of garlands, pigments, and unguents, setting aside weapons and pestles, seated upon the darbha bedding, undertaking the three-day fast, he remained constantly contemplating the goddess Sindhū in his mind.
Then, as that three-day fast of King Bharata was coming to completion, the throne of the goddess Sindhū trembled.
Then the goddess Sindhū saw that her throne had trembled. Having seen it, she employed clairvoyant knowledge (avadhi-jñāna). Having employed it, she observed King Bharata through clairvoyance. Having observed him, this inner, contemplated, desired, mentally conceived thought arose in her:
"Indeed, O sirs! In Bharata realm on Jambūdvīpa island, there has arisen a king named Bharata, a fourfold cakravartin. And it is the established custom of past, present, and future goddesses of Sindhū to make offerings of service to the Bharata kings. Therefore, let me also go and make an offering of service to King Bharata." Having reflected thus, she took one thousand and eight gem-inlaid pitchers, two golden seats of honour adorned with designs of various jewels, gold, and gems, and bracelets, armlets, garments, and ornaments. Having taken them, travelling with that excellent, swift, fleet, victorious, powerful, rapid, and majestic divine godly movement, she went to King Bharata. Having arrived, suspended in the sky, wearing excellent five-coloured garments adorned with tinkling bells, she placed her ten-fingered hands together upon her head in respectful salutation, wished King Bharata prosperity and victory, and spoke thus:
"The entirety of Bharata realm has indeed been conquered by the beloved of the gods! I am a dweller in the domain of the beloved of the gods, I am a maidservant following the orders of the beloved of the gods. Therefore, may the beloved of the gods please accept from me this gift of affection!" Having said this, she presented one thousand and eight gem-inlaid pitchers, two golden seats of honour adorned with designs of various jewels, gold, and gems, and bracelets, armlets, garments, and ornaments.
Then King Bharata accepted this gift of affection from the goddess Sindhū. Having accepted it, he honoured and respected the goddess Sindhū, and having honoured and respected her, he bid her farewell.
Then King Bharata departed from the pauṣadha-hall. Having departed, he went to the bathhouse. Having gone, he bathed, performed protective offerings, and so forth, up to: he went to the dining pavilion. Having arrived, seated upon an excellent comfortable seat in the dining pavilion, he broke the three-day fast. Having broken it, he departed from the dining pavilion. Having departed, he went to the outer audience hall, to the throne. Having arrived, he sat facing eastward on the excellent throne. Having sat down, he summoned the eighteen guilds and craft associations, and having summoned them, spoke thus:
"Quickly, O beloved of the gods! Celebrate an eight-day great festival celebrating victory in honour of the goddess Sindhū—exempt from toll, exempt from taxes, free from high tributes, where debts need not be given, where fines need not be weighed, where soldiers may not intrude, free from rods and cudgels, unencumbered, filled with the dances of foremost courtesans, attended by many musicians, accompanied by ceaseless mṛdaṅga drums, adorned with unfading garlands, delighting the gathered citizens and countrymen, and adorned with victory banners! Having celebrated it, report back this order to me."
Then those eighteen guilds and craft associations, having been addressed thus by King Bharata, rejoiced and glad, up to: celebrated the eight-day great festival, and having celebrated it, reported back the execution of the order.
