[9] Deliberating in council on this very matter with his brothers and others knowledgeable in counsel, determining an auspicious day through those knowledgeable in the scriptures, and having the recitation of auspicious mantras performed, the king of Vraja had them begin the tending of the calves. [10] Along with the two boys, the great cowherds held a festival, and placing joy in their hearts, made their own boys into calf-herders. At the start of this, Bala and Kṛṣṇa acquired splendour through bathing and decoration performed by their mothers, eating of meals, wearing of clothes, donning of fine ornaments, and brandishing canes, ropes, flutes, and buffalo-horn bugles.
