[11] But when two sandals were brought, Kṛṣṇa cast them aside with a gesture of “no, no,” [thinking]: “The fundamental sacred duty of honouring the wealth of cattle, which has come down through generations of our lineage, would be harmed by putting on such an adornment.” Then Rāma too, perceiving Kṛṣṇa's feeling, assented accordingly. [12] The innumerable cattle indeed, noticing this, made the ground over which his feet walked easy to traverse for his comfort, by means of practicing sharp digging with their swift hooves, turning even dust of earth into flower-pollen as it were, and grinding pebbles, thorns, and other such things to pieces. And the earth, regarding his footfalls as an aspersion of nectar and joining in union with Vṛndā, completely removed any leftover obstacles to his comfort, so that even the Khadira forest and other [thorny groves] became exceedingly delightful to walk through. [13] And as the manifestation of the fine lines of marks upon his lotus-like feet brings about a rising of all joy everywhere, let us return to our subject.
