“Alas! In accord with the words of the goddess, which are full of truth, some disguised person is suspected to be hiding under the pretense of being the boy of Nanda the cowherd, by whom—even with his tender limbs—Pūtanā and the others of irresistible power were suddenly brought to ruin through an excess of prowess concealed beneath solemnity. And my heart trembles under the power of his name and glory. Therefore, he must be eliminated through deceit. Alas, even through trickery, one after another, they have employed superior and well-devised plans; yet they were confounded and reduced to failure.” Having considered thus, he again summoned that spy near from his dwelling and asked: “Ah, did you also observe this: toward which species is his great affection and profound love perceived?”
