[40] tataś cāsāv upaskīrṇa-vikīrṇa-mūrtyā sva-pauruṣāpūrtyānanya-gatitāsphūrtyā tat-kāraṇa-kakāraṇā-nivāraṇāya taṃ nārāyaṇam eva matvā śaraṇam amanyata |

Then, his form broken and shattered, unable to fulfill his own prowess, realizing he had no other recourse, he considered him to be none other than Nārāyaṇa, and thought of him as his refuge in order to ward off the distress whose cause was that [arrogance].
