tāsāṃ jalastha-vapuṣāṃ vadaneṣu kṛṣṇa-
syārūḍha-nīpaka-taroḥ sahasā dṛg-antaḥ |
padmeṣu padmapa-kalām adadhād amuṣmin
yāsāṃ ca nīrabhṛti cātakarītim āpa || [vasantatilakā]
The glance from the corner of Kṛṣṇa’s eye, having ascended the kadamba tree, / suddenly fell upon the faces of those [maidens] whose bodies were in the water; / it assumed the role of the sun drinking the lotuses, / while their glance assumed the manner of the cātaka bird toward that cloud. (13)
