Singing his pastimes and subject to their respective absorptions, / the host of gopīs attained his various moods. / Wonder of wonders! Whichever fair-limbed woman attained absorption in Kṛṣṇa / was recognized as dark-colored like Kṛṣṇa! / Even today my heart burns with pain, alas, when it remembers that / these [women], distressed by separation, questioned even the trees again and again: "Alas, Hari! Oh!" / Let that be; this is piercing to my heart: through songs for his sake, / with hearts driven mad by fear of the terrible [forest], they assumed a terrible imitation [of him].
