utpattir akṣṇor abhito na sat-phalā
yābhyāṃ na tasyadbhuta-rūpam īkṣitam |
hā karṇayor apy alam arthadā na sā
yābhyāṃ śrutaṃ naiva hareḥ subhāṣitam ||
The arising of two eyes is completely without good fruit / if by them His wondrous form has not been seen. / Alas, neither is that [arising] of two ears at all purposeful / by which the sweet speech of Hari has not been heard.
