kṛṣṇāyāsīt tasya tṛṣṇā samantāt
tṛṣṇāyai vā kṛṣṇa ity atra bhedaḥ |
nābhūd itthaṃ puruṣaṃ sva-prakṛtyā
yuktaṃ vijñās tatra dṛṣṭāntayanti ||

There was thirst everywhere for Kṛṣṇa,
or Kṛṣṇa existed for that thirst—in this matter there was no difference;
thus the wise give the example of the spirit (puruṣa)
united with its own primordial nature (prakṛti). ||
