kṛṣṇas tan mukhya-vargas tad-anugata-rathas tat-patākā-tad-udyad-
dhūlīnāṃ pālir itthaṃ kramam anu nimiṣa-projjhitaṃ vīikṣyamāṇā |
pratyāvṛttau nirāśā vraja-yuvati-tatiḥ prāṇam atyakṣyad eṣa
prāk cen nātmāgati-svīkṛti-kṛti-lipibhiḥ satyam atra vyadhāsyat ||

Kṛṣṇa, the company of his elders, the chariot following behind, the lines of its banners, and the rising / columns of dust—being watched in succession without blinking; / hopeless of his return, the throng of young women of Vraja would have given up their lives, / had he not previously confirmed his return with letters promising to come back. //
