[56] pūrṇimā babhāṣe-śrīmad-bhāgavataṃ khalv idaṃ śrī-kṛṣṇa-bhāg-avataṃsa iti śaṃsanti | tac ca nija-rahasyam idaṃ na vyaktaṃ vaktuṃ vyavasyati | tac ca garva-sthemnā svatantraṃ-manyatayā nānānya-sampat-kāmanādhīnānāṃ tad-udāsīnānāṃ maty-avaguṇṭhanārthaṃ premṇā gokula-lokaṃ-manyatayā tam upāsīnānāṃ
viśiṣṭa-tan-nijābhīṣṭa-spaṣṭa-śravaṇa-vihīnānāṃ bāḍham utkaṇṭhanārthaṃ ca iti |

[56] Pūrṇimā said: 'People indeed praise this Śrīmad-Bhāgavata as the crest-jewel of those who possess Śrī Kṛṣṇa. And it does not undertake to speak this secret of its own openly. That is for the sake of veiling the minds of those who, through the firmness of their pride, deeming themselves independent, are subject to desires for diverse other riches and are indifferent to him; and it is for the sake of intensely increasing the longing of those who worship him with love, deeming themselves people of Gokula, but are devoid of clear hearing of their specific, personal cherished desire.'
