[37] kiṃ ca, yadavo'pi nāhitaṃ vyāharanti; sphuṭam upalabdha-kaṃsa-saṃbandha-jarāsandha-nirbandhād-akṣauhiṇī-lakṣita-dur-jana-lakṣāṇi mathurām avarotsyanti; tarhi garhitam eva bhavet | tatrāstām asmat-sāmīpyam asmad-asāmīpyataś ca bhavad-avasthānaṃ yady asmat-saṃbandhaṃ vinā labdha-sandhaṃ bhavet tarhy eva kṛcchraṃ narcchet | gūḍha-puruṣa-dvāreṇa jñāte hy asmat-saṃbandhe jarāsandhādayas ta ete kaṃsa-van na bhayānubandhā iti chala-balam ekam ekaṃ na prasthāpayiṣyanti | kiṃ tv akṣauhiṇībhir dravantaḥ sarvaṃ vrajam apy upadrāvayiṣyanti | tasmād asmābhir yuṣmābhiś ca gopayitavya eva gandhaś ca vyati-saṃbandhasya; ete ca mayā yādavā durgāntare davayitavyāḥ; bhavantas tv asaṃkhyā na tathā kartuṃ śakyāḥ | saṃkhyām aticarantīnāṃ vanecarantīnāṃ gavām āvaraṇaṃ
tu sutarām eva duṣkaram; tasmāt teṣāṃ durga-vad-asmad-audāsīnyam eva bhavatāṃ rakṣāyāṃ prāvīṇyam arhati |

[37] ‘Moreover, even the Yādavas speak no falsehood. Out of Jarāsandha’s persistent hostility arising from his evident connection to Kaṃsa, lakhs of wicked men marked into akṣauhiṇī armies will besiege Mathurā; then it would become truly calamitous. Leaving aside your proximity to us, even your staying far from us could only escape hardship if your connection to us remained undiscovered. For if our connection is known through secret agents, Jarāsandha and his allies, who unlike Kaṃsa are not gripped by fear, will not dispatch their deceitful forces one by one, but rushing forward with whole akṣauhiṇī divisions, they will overrun even all of Vraja. Therefore, even the scent of mutual relation must be concealed by us and by you. And these Yādavas must be removed by me to another fortress; but you, being innumerable, cannot be relocated in that way. And enclosing the cows, who wander in the forest and exceed all count, is entirely impossible. Hence, our very indifference toward you, like a fortress, is what truly possesses the efficacy for your protection.’
