ekā dvitrāś catasro yuta-viyutatayā pañca-ṣāḥ sapta cāṣṭau
paṅktir vā paṅkti-baddhāḥ śiśu-yuvati-jaraty-ardha-vṛddhāḥ samantāt |
āyānti drāg viśanti vraja-nṛpati-gṛhaṃ taṃ ca paśyanti bālaṃ
kṛtvā cuckāra-miśraṃ bahula-vilasitaṃ smāyayantyo hasanti || [sragdharā]

One, two or three, four, together or apart, five or six, seven, and eight,
Or in rows, formed into lines, infants, young women, old women, and middle-aged matrons from all sides
Come quickly, enter the house of the king of Vraja, and gaze upon that boy;
Making diverse gestures mingled with clucking sounds, causing him to smile, they laugh.
