"tasmān nandātmajas te yad api hari-samaḥ sarva-sādguṇya-vṛttyā
sarvatremaṃ tathāpi sva-mahima-vibhava-khyātibhiḥ pālaya tvam |
vaśyaṃ kurvan sva-devaṃ harim amum api taṃ svāṅgajaṃ nirmimīṣe
tad vīra tvāṃ vinā na svayam ayam ayate svairatāṃ svāvanāya || [śārdulavikrīḍitam]

"Therefore, O Nanda, though your son is equal to Hari in the manifestation of every excellence,
nevertheless protect him everywhere with the glory, majesty, and renown that are your own.
Subduing your own deity Hari, you also fashion him as your own son;
therefore, O hero, without you he does not of himself resort to autonomy for his own protection."
