[56] pitā tu tāṃ pūrvaṃ vigata-saṃvedatayā anantaraṃ tu svata eva jāta-nirvedatayā dūnāṃ veda sma | tata eva na sahasā rahasāpi paribhāṣitum iyeṣa | ajñatayāvajñayā na ca papraccha bālakān, kim idaṃ vṛttam? iti |

[56] But the father knew that she had first lost consciousness and had subsequently become distressed out of self-reproach that arose naturally. For that very reason, he did not wish to rebuke her rashly, even in secret. Nor did he ask the boys, out of ignorance or out of disregard, "What happened here?"
