1.11

candrādityamanūnāñca pravarāḥ kṣatriyāḥ smṛtāḥ /
brahmaṇo vāhudeśāccaivānyāḥ kṣatriyajātayaḥ /
ūrudeśācca vaiśyāśca pādataḥ śūdrajātayaḥ //

The foremost Kṣatriyas are remembered [as descended] from the Moon, the Sun, and the Manus; / and other classes of Kṣatriyas came from Brahmā's arms; / the Vaiśyas came from the region of the thighs, and the classes of Śūdras from the feet.
