navaitāḥ karṇavedhāntāḥ mantravarjjaṃ kriyā striyāḥ //
And the establishment of the three fires—thus sixteen life-cycle rites are remembered; / these nine ending with the ear-piercing rite are the rites for a woman, without mantras.
