"The two of us having no fortune to be together, it has turned out thus:
When you appear in my dreams and I obtain and behold you in any way,
My stretching out my arms into the empty sky to embrace you tightly
Is surely not unseen by the forest deities dwelling on the earth;
Like strings of pearls, their tear-drops fall profusely upon the branches of the trees.
Having broken off the foliaged boughs of the devadāru trees,
The breezes blowing toward the south, fragrant with the exuding milky sap of those trees,
Which first embrace me—O you endowed with every virtue—
I think: 'If they have reached the snowy mountain, they must surely have touched your body!'
How might the long night of three watches be compressed into a single moment?
How might the daytime too be relieved of suffering in all its circumstances?
O lady of tremulous eyes, as it is thus, my yearning mind has become bereft of good fortune,
Deprived of steadfastness by the torments of parting from you and by great anguish.
Counting the many days, my inner thought knows that I shall not die.
O virtuous lady, you too must not mourn excessively;
Who enjoys uninterrupted happiness? Who suffers continual grief without end?
Like the spokes of a wheel, going downwards and gradually turning upwards again, [fortune moves].
When Viṣṇu rises from his slumber upon the couch of the serpent, the curse of the angry master will come to an end;
There are four months remaining; keep your eyes closed until then and remain firm.
Thereafter, both of us shall obtain those pleasures of love born from long separation,
And in the full-moon nights of autumn, we shall enjoy those desired pleasures."
Moreover say: "Formerly, when you and I were asleep on our bed embracing neck-to-neck,
I suddenly awoke and, for some reason, wept;
When you asked me repeatedly with an inward smile,
I said to you: 'O deceiver, I saw you enjoying someone else in a dream!'
Knowing that I have given you this auspicious sign,
O dark-eyed lady, you must not doubt my fidelity because of the words of wicked people;
