abhūn nṛpo vibudha-sakhaḥ paraṃ-tapaḥ śrutā'nvito daśa-ratha ityudāhṛtaḥ,
guṇair varaṃ bhuvana-hitac-chalena yaṃ sanā-tanaḥ pitaramupāgamat svayam.

There was a king, a friend of the gods, a scorcher of foes, endowed with sacred learning, known by the name Daśaratha, / whom, pre-eminent in virtues, the Eternal [Lord] Himself approached as a father under the pretext of benefiting the world.
