While Jayā was thus consoling the women of heaven, the host of celestial women, the modesty, the bashfulness of Himālaya's Daughter triumphs. Of what sort were the women of heaven? Distressed. Of what sort was Himālaya's Daughter? She who had slain her foe. "Thus"—how? "O Indrāṇī, why have you fled? O wife of the Lord of Wealth, wife of Kubera, look upon the combat, the battle, of your friend Pārvatī! O Svāhā, wife of Fire, be at ease now that your husband, Fire, is an eater of ambrosia: the idea is that now that Mahiṣa is slain, the Brahmins offer oblations with ease. Rohiṇī, wife of the Moon, weeps in vain, fruitlessly: the idea is that no harm has come to him. O Lakṣmī, you shall dwell soon, in the future, upon the chest marked with the Śrīvatsa, the breast of Viṣṇu!" The idea is that hearing this consolation of all the wives of the gods, the Goddess became bashful.
"Are you the only one quenched at the vanguard of battle, Fire, while the wielder of the bow Śārṅga too, shooting,
[has lost his arrows]? Where has that courage of yours gone? Cast off your misery, Lord of Waters: you are no wretch!
The dust of your van, O Indra revealing fear, is not capable of crushing the foe!
Curse you, where are you fleeing?"—muttering thus, the foe was slain by whom: may that Pārvatī protect you! (34)
