Saṃvāhaka: Then today, as chance would have it, I was cornered in Courtesan Street. Out of fear of him, I entered here. Let the noble lady know this.
Courtesan: (To herself) Oh, what a disaster! This indeed, I think, is how birds scatter when their dwelling-tree is destroyed! (Aloud) Since this is the case, the noble sir is our very own. My dear, go, send that man away!
Maidservant: As you say. (Exits.)
Courtesan: The noble sir must not worry about the money. Let the noble sir know that it is noble Cārudatta himself who gives it.
Maidservant: Mistress, that man has been dismissed, and he has gone away satisfied.
Saṃvāhaka: I am favored.
Courtesan: Let the noble sir go and enjoy the pleasure of seeing his friends.
Saṃvāhaka: Out of despondency I might take the ascetic vows this very day. If this art were transferred to your servants, then I would be favored by the noble lady.
