Both Maidservants: Thus the mistress submits: "Today, having gone to the Makaranda Garden, worship of the blessed Flower-Armed God stationed at the red aśoka tree is to be performed by me. The noble lord should be present there."
King: Friend, what is there to say? Another festival has fallen upon the heels of a festival!
Vidūṣaka: So get up! Let us go right there, so that for me too, a Brahmin who has gone there, there will be some gift of auspicious food.
King: Madanikā, go to inform the queen: "Here I am, already arrived at the Makaranda Garden."
Both Maidservants: As the master commands. [They exit.]
King: Friend, come, let us descend. [Rising, both mime descending from the palace.]
King: Friend, point out the way to the Makaranda Garden.
Vidūṣaka: Come, let your honor come! [Both walk about.]
Vidūṣaka [looking ahead]: Hey, this is the Makaranda Garden! So come, let us enter. [Both enter.]
Vidūṣaka [with wonder]: Great king, look, look! This Makaranda Garden appears as though displaying hospitality at your arrival, with a fabric canopy formed by the mass of pollen from budding mango clusters shaken by the Malaya breeze, bringing pleasure through the concert of sweeter cuckoo calls mingling with the loud buzzing loosed by swarms of drunken bees! So let my dear friend look!
King [looking all around]: Ah, the loveliness of the Makaranda Garden! For here
Bearing a coppery luster with their sprouts radiant like rising coral, / wearing the graceful manner of indistinct speech through the soft murmuring of swarms of bees, / swaying continually with their clusters of branches moving when struck by the Malaya wind, / having reached a state of dizziness in connection with the spring, these trees now seem drunk. || 17
And furthermore:
At their base, as though it were the wine of mouthful-sprinkling, a shower of flowers is vomited by the bakulas
