(2.25) Susaṃgatā: Ah, stubborn girl! What will you do even now with the picture board? That wicked monkey, fond of curd-rice, opened this cage and escaped! And this clever myna bird has flown off and is going somewhere else! So come, let us quickly follow it!
(2.26) Sāgarikā: Friend, let us do so.
They walk around.
(2.27) Behind the scenes: Ha ha! Wonderful, wonderful!
(2.28) Sāgarikā (looking in fear): Susaṃgatā, I think that wicked monkey is coming again!
(2.29) Susaṃgatā (looking and laughing): Ah, timid one! Do not fear. This is the noble Vasantaka, the king's companion in amusing pursuits.
Then enters the Vidūṣaka.
(2.30) Vidūṣaka: Ha ha! Wonderful, wonderful! Well done, pious Śrīkhaṇḍadāsa, well done!
(2.31) Sāgarikā looks on eagerly.
(2.32) Susaṃgatā: Friend, what use is looking at him? The myna bird has gone far away; so let us follow it.
Both exit.
(2.33) Vidūṣaka: Well done, Śrīkhaṇḍadāsa, well done! For by the mere application of the longing-ritual, such a navamālikā jasmine has been produced that, with its branches completely covered by newly burst clusters of flowers, it seems to mock the mādhavī creeper fostered by the queen! So let me go and inform my dear friend. (Walking around and looking) Indeed, my dear friend, because he has faith in that longing-ritual, though that navamālikā jasmine is out of sight, sees it as if it were directly before him in bloom; his eyes wide with joy, he is coming right here. So let me approach him. (He goes toward the king.)
Then enters the king as described.
(2.34) King (with joy):
With buds violently bursting forth, pale in luster, in a moment beginning to expand,
producing distress in herself by continuous emissions of sighs,
this creeper in the pleasure garden today, like another woman possessed by love,
