(2.18) Susaṃgatā | Placing her hand on Sāgarikā's heart | Friend, take heart, take heart! While I fetch lotus leaves and lotus fibers from this oblong pond, I will return very quickly. | Having exited, entered again, she acts out placing lotus leaves upon Sāgarikā's heart.
(2.19) Sāgarikā | Friend, take away these lotus leaves and lotus fibers. Enough of this! Why do you distress yourself for no reason? For I say:
Attachment to an unobtainable person, modesty heavy, oneself dependent on others;
dear friend, love is painful, and death the only refuge. || 26 || (2.1)
She faints.
(2.20) A clamor behind the scenes.
Dragging below him the remains of a gold chain broken off at the neck,
passing through the gates, his circle of ankle-bells ringing from his playfully leaping feet,
causing terror to the women, his path pursued in haste by the grooms,
a monkey, escaped from the stable, enters the king's palace! || 27 || (2.2)
And moreover:
The eunuchs have fled, casting aside shame because of their lack of manhood;
this dwarf enters inside the chamberlain’s tunic out of fear;
the Kirātas, taking refuge in the corners, have acted in keeping with their name;
the hunchbacks creep slowly by their low stature, fearful of being noticed. || 28 || (2.3)
(2.21) Susaṃgatā | Listening, in flurry | Friend, get up, get up! That wicked monkey is coming right this way!
(2.22) Sāgarikā | What shall I do now?
(2.23) Susaṃgatā | Come! Entering the darkness of this tamāla bower, let us wait this out.
Having walked around, both stand in a secluded spot.
(2.24) Sāgarikā | Susaṃgatā, how is this? You left behind the picture board! Someone might see it!
