na kasyacit kaścid iha svabhāvād
bhavaty udāro 'bhimataḥ khalo vā |
loke gurutvaṃ viparītatāṃ vā
sva-ceṣṭitāny eva naraṃ nayanti //
No one in this world is by nature
noble, favored, or vile;
a man's own actions alone bring him
to high standing or the reverse in the world.'
