evamuktalakṣaṇayuktaṃ tasyā rūpaṃ likhitvā rājño haste samarpitavān. rājā 'pi citralikhitāṃ tām priyāṃ dṛṣṭvā 'tisaṃtuṣṭas tasmai citrakāyo 'citaṃ dadau. tadanantaraṃ rājaguruṇā śāradānandanena citrapaṭalikhitāṃ bhānumatīṃ dṛṣṭvā citrakaṃ prati bhaṇitam: bhoś citraka, bhānumatyāḥ sarvam api lakṣaṇaṃ likhitam, param ekaṃ vismṛtaṃ tvayā. teno 'ktam: bhoḥ svāmin, tat kiṃ vismṛtaṃ kathaya. śāradānandaneno 'ktam: tasyā vāmajaghanasthale tilasadṛśo matsyo 'sti; sa na likhitas tvayā. rājā 'pi śāradānandanavacanaṃ śrutvā tatpratyayārthaṃ suratasamaye tasya vamajaghanaṃ yāvat paśyati, tāvat tilasadṛśo matsyo dṛṣṭaḥ. taṃ dṛṣṭvā rājā svamanasy acintayat: katham ayam asyā guhyadeśe sthitaṃ matsyaṃ dṛṣṭavān? sarvathā 'nayā sahā 'sya saṃsargo vidyate; anyathā katham etad anena jñātam? api ca, strīṇāṃ viṣaye 'py ayaṃ saṃdeho na kartavyaḥ. kutaḥ:

Having thus painted her form endowed with the described characteristics, he delivered it into the king's hand. The king, too, seeing his beloved portrayed in the painting, was exceedingly pleased and gave the painter a fitting reward. Thereafter, the royal preceptor Śāradānanda, seeing Bhānumatī painted on the picture-cloth, said to the painter: 'O painter, you have painted all the marks of Bhānumatī, but you have forgotten one.' He replied: 'O master, tell me what has been forgotten.' Śāradānanda said: 'On her left thigh there is a fish-shaped mark resembling a sesamum seed; that you have not painted.'
