If a leaf never appears on the karīra shrub, is it the fault of spring? / If an owl cannot see by day, what blame attaches to the sun? / If streams of rain do not fall into the mouth of the cātaka bird, what blame belongs to the cloud? / What was written long ago by fate upon the forehead—who is able to wipe it away?
