brahma-jñāna-viveka-nirmala-dhiyaḥ kurvanty aho duṣkaraṃ
yan muñcanty upabhoga-bhāñjy api dhanāny ekāntato niḥspṛhāḥ |
samprātān na purā na samprati na ca prāptau dṛḍha-pratyayān
vāñchā-mātra-parigrahān api paraṃ tyaktuṃ na śaktā vayam ||
Those whose minds are spotless through the discernment of knowledge of Brahman do what is truly difficult,
in that, utterly detached, they cast aside riches even while possessing enjoyment of them;
whereas we are unable to abandon what was never obtained in the past, nor now, nor with any firm assurance of future gain—
nothing more than the mere grasping of desires!
