eko rāgiṣu rājate priyatamā-dehārdha-hārī haro
nīrāgeṣu jano vimukta-lalanāsaṅgo na yasmāt paraḥ |
durvāra-smara-bāṇa-pannaga-viṣa-vyābiddha-mugdho janaḥ
śeṣaḥ kāma-viḍambitān na viṣayān bhoktuṃ na moktuṃ kṣamaḥ ||

Alone among the impassioned shines Hara, who took half of his beloved's body;
among the dispassionate, there is none greater than he who has renounced attachment to women;
the rest of humanity, bewildered by the poison of the snake of irresistible Smara's arrow,
mocked by desire, are neither able to enjoy sense objects nor to renounce them.
