gātraṃ saṅkucitaṃ gatir vigalitā bhraṣṭā ca dantāvalir
dṛṣṭir nakṣyati vardhate vadhiratā vaktraṃ ca lālāyate |
vākyaṃ nādriyate ca bāndhava-jano bhāryā na śuśrūṣate
hā kaṣṭaṃ puruṣasya jīrṇa-vayasaḥ putro 'py amitrāyate ||

The body is stooped, the gait has faltered, the row of teeth has fallen out, / eyesight is failing, deafness increases, and saliva trickles from the mouth; / kinfolk heed not one's word, one's wife offers no care, / and alas, for a man advanced in age, even his son acts like an enemy!
