śiśirādyās tribhis tais tu vidyād ayanam uttaram |
ādānaṃ ca tad ādatte nṛṇāṃ prati-dinaṃ balam || 2 ||
The three [seasons] beginning with early winter are known as the northern course [of the sun], / and as the period of extraction, for it extracts the strength of men day by day.
