Now, indeed, a man twenty-one years of age should marry—by a blameless rite—a maiden who does not belong to the same lineage, who is of equal social standing, born of a family free from transmissible diseases, endowed with beauty, good conduct, and auspicious marks, whose teeth, lips, ears, nose, nails, hair, and breasts are neither defective nor ruined, of gentle nature, naturally free from disease, neither brownish-red nor tawny-haired, with limbs neither deficient nor redundant, about twelve years of age, who does not bear names of gods, serpents, rivers, mountains, trees, birds, constellations, outcastes, servants, or terrifying names, and who is sinless and unblemished.
