Companion to the fire, the cold [vāta] would become especially vitiated in the cold; / therefore, in winter, one should resort to unctuous, sweet, sour, and salty tastes. // And the belly does not grow: / they call that [condition] upaviṣṭaka. // But when every month, or every day, there is a discharge of menstrual fluid, and it is not very small, while the diminishing embryo twitches slightly only after a long time, / and the belly, though enlarged, decreases: / that is upaśuṣkaka and nāgodara. // Possessed of sweating and fainting, possessed of abdominal distension, with burning and obstruction in the bladder, // afflicted with cough, he should lick [it] and drink goat's milk afterward. // With sugar, honey, and ghee, well-cooled, accompanied by the jīvanīya [drugs], it destroys pitta disorders. // And one should employ whichever ghees have been stated in the science of spirits.
