17.2

Here indeed, substance is composed of the five great elements.
Its foundation is earth; its origin is water; specific manifestation arises from the co-inherence of ether, wind, and fire.
Designation, however, is by predominance.
Therefore, from the occurrence of the co-inherence of the elements, no substance has only a single taste;
and consequently diseases do not have a single doṣa.
Castor oil combined with either urine or milk, day after day for one month or two, or a diet of milk, or cow's or buffalo's urine,
or subsisting on female camel's milk.
That [disease] caused by śleṣman was previously stated to be curable;
it has, again, six complications:
āvartakī,
śarkarā,
rājīmatī,
chinnāṃśukā,
candrakī,
and chatrakī.
