guṇasāmyādvivardhante yathāsvaṃ dhātavo nṛṇām | rasais tadviparītaiś ca yāntyete kṣayamāhṛtaiḥ ||
Through similarity of qualities, the bodily constituents of men increase respectively; / and through tastes opposite to them when ingested, these undergo diminution.
