na cet kāraṇamātmā syād-bhādayaḥ syurahetukāḥ/
na caiṣu saṃbhavej jñānaṃ na ca taiḥ syāt prayojanam//
If the self were not the cause, light and the other [entities] would be without cause; / nor could knowledge arise in them, nor could there be any purpose fulfilled by them.
