For when in her ovum the seed-part for the uterus undergoes vitiation, then she gives birth to a sterile female (vandhyā); when, on the other hand, in her ovum a fraction of the seed-part for the uterus undergoes vitiation, then she gives birth to a putrid-offspring producer (pūtiprajā); but when in her ovum a fraction of the seed-part for the uterus and a portion of the seed-parts for the body that produce a female undergo vitiation, then she gives birth to an unwomanly creature predominantly having the form of a woman, named vārtā; they call that an abnormality of the female.
