anumānāt parīkṣeta darśanādīni tattvataḥ/
addhā hi &viditaṃ jñānamindriyāṇāmatīndriyam//
One should examine [the senses of] sight and so forth properly through inference;
for direct cognition [is held to be through the senses, but] the senses themselves transcend the senses.
