[or] with curd-whey. // 82
Cough, asthma, long-standing anemia, severe splenic enlargement, colic, severe abdominal swelling,
hiccup, heart disease, sluggishness, spitting, diarrhea with undigested matter, and gulma accompanied by pain, // 83
choleraic diarrhea, sluggish digestion, weak digestive fire,
dysentery, burning in the rectum, [and complications] of hemorrhoids—
these it properly alleviates, being the most supreme [remedy] here in this world, especially when administered indeed with warm water. // 84
{X} The Aśvin Citron-Pill, 5 verses. {X}
Of pāṭhā, kalinga seeds, yavā, mustā, and rohīṇī,
shares together with ativiṣā one should make in dharaṇa measures;
one should add haridrā equal to the fourth dharaṇa, and then drink this powder with cow's urine. // 85
It destroys the thirty-six types of dermatosis
in the body, and eradicates the places of seven severe wasting conditions;
and when practiced for a month, it eliminates gulma
in a person who consumes all kinds of food and is devoted to ghee and meat. // 86
{X} The Aśvin Powder for Gulma. {X}
Pippalī along with viḍa salt and alkali, and likewise natron,
ginger together with black pepper, and rock salt, // 87
then yavānī, dantī, trivṛt, and vatsaka,
and sauvarcala salt, cumin, and the three myrobalans should be added here. // 88
One should make all equal parts into a fine powder;
this powder formulation will be superior when well infused with cow's urine. // 89
To a person whose body has been unctuated and who has had an unctuous meal,
one should administer only the measure of a cat's footprint with warm water. // 90
Then, when that has been fully digested, whenever he should become thirsty,
with the smell of ghee, free of alkali, with pomegranate juice indeed, // 91
the best physician should give him to drink, and then he becomes
comfortable. Then, when that [juice] has been fully digested, whenever he should desire food, // 92
then well-steamed, soft boiled red rice
he should cause him to eat with the meat juices of arid animals, prepared with distinct sour and salty [tastes]. // 93
In choleraic diarrhea, in hemorrhoids, and whatever diverse disorders [there may be],
and in bad food and indigestion, and likewise in anemia,
and likewise in wind-gulma, and in those who suffer from digestive-tract disorders,
a person using this formulation attains well-being. // 95
{O} The Māgadha Powder.
Both kinds of turmeric, black pepper, lotus, kuṣṭha together with pippalī,
cotton-plant root, māṃsī, and svarjikā alkali as the eighth. // 96
These equal parts one should grind on a stone;
one should make a pill of the size of a jujube-stone and dry it in the shade. // 97
Then one should administer one pill with warm water;
[…] are pacified, listen to those varieties of disease: // 98
indigestion, upward movement of wind, dysuria, throat-spasm,
abdominal swelling, and wind-gulma, and whatever spider-poison there may be. // 99
It destroys all chronic latent poison, […] scorpion sting,
paralyzed wind, epilepsy, barrenness and a man who is impotent, // 100
demonic possession, madness, and women whose fetus is obstructed;
as a drink and an ointment for the purposes of fang and root poisons. // 101
{O} The Aśvin Haridrā Powder, 6 verses. {O}
Ṣaḍī, vacā,
tāmalakī, pippalī, and ginger;
having fried jaggery with ghee, the physician should make a pill. // 102
Chest-injury, catarrh, pain in the flanks, heart, and abdomen,
and severe dry cough: everything one can cure with this. // 103
Pill with Jaggery, 2 verses. {O}
Two hundred [grains] of black pepper should be taken, and one hundred of māgadhī pippalī,
and a pala measure of sugar, and fine ginger should be the principal [ingredient]. // 104
There should be a karṣa measure of tamarind, a clean karṣa measure of pomegranate, and a karṣa measure of jujube;
a karṣa measure of cinnamon should be added, and half a karṣa measure of cumin, // 105
a karṣa measure of hog-plum, half a karṣa measure of picked coriander,
and with a karṣa measure of sauvarcala salt: the powder-ariṣṭa is supremely proven. // 106
This alleviates hemorrhoids at their roots and enkindles the digestive tract that has waned;
it destroys heart disease and anemia, [and] cough along with asthma. // 107
{O} The Powder-Ariṣṭa. The powder formulations in the Nāvanītaka are completed. {X}
The first chapter is completed.
This rasāyana resembling the juice of ambrosia, which increases the strength of men,
an excellent ghee named Amṛtaprāśa, I shall proclaim: // 108
A prastha measure of emblic myrobalan juice,
and likewise there should be a prastha measure of kṣīravidārī,
and indeed a prastha measure of sugarcane juice, and in the same way of the milk of a cow with her first calf. // 109
One should also add a full prastha measure of autumn ghee here;
and these medicinal herbs, well ground, should be added in [prescribed] measure: // 110
ṛṣabhaka, ṛddhi, licorice, vidārigandhā, and payasyā,
sahadevā, anantā, madhūlikā, and viśvadevā, // 111
the two medās, ṛṣyaprokta, śatāvarī, mudgaparṇī and māṣaparṇī,
śrāvaṇī, then ātmaguptā, and vīrā, in parts of half a pala measure; // 112
