II. Fol. 5: Bower manuscript
Knowing this to be accomplished, one should strain it and place it in an auspicious vessel. / When it has cooled, one should add a prastha measure of well-strained honey. // 114
One should add sixteen pala measures of powdered white sugar, / half a pala measure of black pepper, and one pala measure of fine cardamom should be given. // 115
Having dusted it with these fine powders, the wise physician should churn it with a churning stick. / The prudent one should administer a dose of it, considering the strength of the digestive fire. // 116
And when it has digested, the physician should give rice prepared from winter rice with meat broth of arid-tract animals. / Amṛtaprāśa is supreme, increasing strength and complexion in men. // 117
It should be employed in phthisis and chest injury, in the elderly, in the emaciated, and in children; / it should also be employed in those fainting, those wheezing, and in hiccup. // 118
This clarified butter known as Amṛta was formulated by Ātreya.
Amṛtaprāśa clarified butter: 11 verses and 1 quarter-verse. Priyangu, tagara, costus, pomegranate, and elavāluka, // 119
tālīsa, medā, the three myrobalans, stamens, the two bṛhatīs, / blue lotus, devadāru, sandalwood, and the two types of śārivā, // 120
the two kinds of turmeric, viḍaṅga, jasmin flowers, / dantī, aṃśumatī, madder, and also śālaparṇī, // 121
measured in akṣa units each: one should cook a prastha measure of ghee in four times as much water. / This clarified butter named Kalyāṇaka is the best for drinking. // 122
It cures cough, dyspnoea, catarrh, tertian and quartan fevers, / insanity, chest-wound, erysipelas, urinary disorders, gout, // 123
hiccup, vomiting, anemia, edemas, / urinary retention, semen disorders in men, and disorders of the female genital tract in women. // 124
A barren woman conceives, and it also destroys artificial poisons; / in cases of powder-poison formulas and in those afflicted with poison, // 125
in spleen diseases, piles, and abdominal swellings, this ghee is like nectar. / It produces strength and complexion, kindles the digestive fire, and promotes wellness; // 126
it even dispels misfortune if this ghee is kept in the home. // The ghee named Kalyāṇaka: 8 verses.
Jīvaka, ṛṣabhaka, vīrā, kākanāsā, and mṛṇālī, // 127
mudgaparṇī, māṣaparṇī, ṛddhi, and medā one should collect, / mahāsahā, kṣudrasahā, and likewise kākolī, // 128
abhīruparṇī, haṃsapadī, śaṭī, and fruits of the cowhage, / the fruit of date, raisins, mango, and emblic myrobalans, // 129
long pepper, ginger, and likewise raw sugar and sugar: / one should take a paste of these, and milk together with clarified butter. // 130
When it is cooked and strained, one should drink it to destroy disease; / this destroys wind humour, bile humour, chest injury, and cough. // 131

mustā, and vatsaka seeds, having made a paste in portions of half a karṣa measure; / and six pala measures of fresh clarified butter: this finished ghee should be drunk. // 135
It cures dermatoses, fever, abdominal swelling, piles, chronic bowel disease, anemia, and edema, / and dispels erysipelas, kitibha, scabies, itching, foot cracks, and swellings; it is proven. // 136
Tiktaka ghee: 4 verses. Saptacchada, prativiṣā, śamyāka, bitter rohiṇī, pāṭhā, / mustā, uśīra, the three myrobalans, paṭola, picumanda, parpaṭaka, // 137

It immediately cures dermatoses marked by wind and bile humours, bleeding piles, / erysipelas, internal hemorrhage, gout, anemia, // 141
blisters along with scabies, insanity, jaundice, parasitic worms, itching, / heart disease, boils, carbuncles, irregular / menses, and scrofula, // 142
when this clarified butter is drunk at the proper time according to one's strength; / this great clarified butter conquers great clinical domains that were not conquered even by hundreds of remedies. // 143
Mahātiktaka: 7 verses. Both kinds of turmeric, madder, pāṭhā, bitter rohiṇī, / plumbago, then viḍaṅga, long pepper, trivṛt, calamus, // 144
śārivā, costus, mustā, cardamom, and licorice, measured an akṣa each, / and one should add śaṅkhapuṣpī to five prastha measures of the five bovine products. // 145
Having drunk this cooked ghee, one becomes strong and free from disease, / endowed with a clear complexion, intelligent, radiant, and tireless with women. // 146
