II. Fol. 6: Bower manuscript
Viḍaṅga, citraka, dantī, the three pungents, airiṇapippalī, / aśvamūtrī, trivṛt, kṣīrī, nīlī, rock salt, and vacā: // 148
With these, one should cook a prastha measure of ghee with twice that amount of curd. / That, once prepared, one should administer judiciously; it destroys dyspnea, piles, and abdominal lumps. // 149
With long pepper, long pepper root, cavya, citraka, and dry ginger, / each a pala measure, along with barley alkali, one should cook a prastha measure of ghee // 150
with a prastha measure of milk. That clarified butter / destroys abdominal lump caused by phlegm humour, cures chronic diarrhea and jaundice, and removes splenomegaly, cough, and fever. // 151
[This is] the ghee called Ṣaṭpala. 4 verses. // The three pungents, the three myrobalans, / mustā, viḍaṅga, cavya, and citraka: / with pastes of these, ghee prepared with milk removes abdominal lumps caused by wind humour. // 152
[This is the ghee called] Tryūṣaṇa. // Having crushed vṛśa with its branches, one should boil it in eight times as much water; / when one eighth remains, one should add its flower and paste. // 158
Ghee prepared with this and combined with honey removes abdominal lumps caused by bile humour / and destroys internal hemorrhage, fever, dyspnea, cough, and heart disease. // 154
[This is] Vāsāghṛta. 2 verses. // Dry ginger, long pepper root, citraka, hastipippalī, / śvadaṃṣṭrā, long pepper, coriander, bilva, pāṭhā, and yavānikā: // 155
with these pastes, one should cook clarified butter in fresh juice of cāṅgerī / and four times as much curd. That ghee removes phlegm and wind humours; // 156
piles, chronic diarrhea disorder, / dysuria, dysentery, / distress from rectal prolapse, and abdominal distension, this ghee dispels. // 157
[This is] Cāṅgerīghṛta. 6 verses. // Taking four parts of well-strained juice of cāṅgerī, / the wise physician should stir it with paste of the same, equal [in weight] to a bilva fruit, // 158
and slowly cook this prastha measure of ghee over a gentle fire. / A person who has the disease of piles, upon merely drinking it, becomes comfortable. // 159
[This is] another Cāṅgerīghṛta. 2 verses. // One should obtain the fresh juice of nidigdhikā pressed out by an apparatus; / in four parts of that juice, one should cook a prastha measure of ghee. // 160
As the paste, one should add the three pungents, rāsnā, gokṣuraka, and balā. / This clarified butter, when drunk, immediately dispels the five kinds of cough. // 161
[This is] the one named Kaṇṭakārikāghṛta. 2 verses. // Eight pala measures of madhuka and a prastha measure of raisins / one should cook slowly over a gentle fire in an aqueous droṇa measure of water. // 162
When one eighth remains, one should cook a prastha measure of ghee in it; / when that is cooked, strained, / and cooled down, one should add // 163
eight pala measures of sugar and half a prastha measure of honey. / This is to be administered to those suffering from internal hemorrhage, those coughing, those with deficient semen, // 164
and those who are emaciated and wounded [in the chest], along with an equal amount of barley groats. / [This is] Mṛdvīkāghṛta. 3 verses, 1 quarter. // The minor group of five roots, guḍūcī, madhuka, and balā: // 165
one pala measure each, in a droṇa measure of water reduced to one-fourth. / Having taken that decoction, one should cook a prastha measure of ghee // 166
and add a paste of the vitalising herbs, four times as much milk, / and similarly of vidārī, emblic myrobalan, and sugarcane juice, // 167
having added portions equal to the ghee, one should cook it over a gentle fire. / This clarified butter, called 'Rejuvenator', should be drunk to remove wasting diseases; // 168
it destroys heart disease, cough from chest injury, and fevers. / [This is] the ghee called Rasāyanika. 4 verses. // Roots of reed, roots of sugarcane, stems of sugarcane, ikṣuvālikā, // 169
śatāvarī, payasyā, vidārī, kaṇṭakārikā, / jīvantī, jīvaka, medā, vīrā, ṛṣabhaka, balā, // 170
ṛddhi, gokṣuraka, rāsnā, ātmaguptā, and punarnavā: / three pala measures each of these, and one āḍhaka measure of fresh māṣa beans, // 171
should be boiled in a droṇa measure of water, and one should reduce it to an āḍhaka measure. / There, the substances to be ground are madhuka, raisins, phalgū fruits, long pepper, // 172
ātmaguptā, flowers of madhūka, dates, and śatāvarī; / and there should be the individual juices of vidārī, emblic myrobalan, and sugarcane. // 173
The physician should add an āḍhaka measure of clarified butter and a droṇa measure of milk; / he should cook it until only the ghee remains, and when well strained, combine it again // 174
with powders of sugar and bamboo manna, one prastha measure of each. / One should make pills of one pala measure each and administer them according to the digestive fire. // 175
This formulation is supremely aphrodisiac, nourishing, and strength-promoting; / by means of this, a strong man, excited like a stallion, applies his penis. // 176
[This is] the ghee called Śaramūlīya. 7 verses, 1 quarter. // Having pounded minced peacock meat, / one should cook it in an offering of water, along with rāsnā, daśamūla, balā, and madhuka. // 177
With that [decoction] reduced to one-fourth, four times as much milk, / and with the vitalising herbs as pastes, one should cook a prastha measure of ghee. // 178
They praise this peacock ghee for nasal administration, drinking, and application to the head; / it is the destroyer of head diseases, facial paralysis, and tumors; // 179
earaches, deafness, stiffness of the neck, lockjaw, / foul mouth, tinnitus, / dryness of the palate, uvular swelling, // 180
night blindness, yellowish eyes, cataracts, watery opacities of the eye, / conjunctivitis, and severe eye inflammation: it draws these out of the eyes. // 181
[This is] Māyūra ghee. 7 verses, [1] quarter.
