ete caturṇāṃ varṇānām āpaddharmāḥ prakīrtitāḥ
yān samyag anutiṣṭhanto vrajanti paramaṃ gatim //

The duties of the four castes (varna) in times of distress have thus been declared, and if they perform them well, they will reach the most blessed state.
