śoṇitaṃ yāvataḥ pāṃsūn saṃgṛhṇāti mahītale
tāvanty abdasahasrāṇi tatkartā narake //

But he who, intending to hurt a Brahmana, has threatened (him with a stick and the like) shall remain in hell during a hundred years; he who (actually) struck him, during one thousand years.
