laukikaṃ vaidikaṃ vāpi tathādhyātmikam eva vā
ādadīta yato jñānaṃ taṃ pūrvam abhivādayet //
(A student) shall first reverentially salute that (teacher) from whom he receives (knowledge), referring to worldly affairs, to the Veda, or to the Brahman.
